Happy 15th, Dinky D! You are a wizard master.
I’ve been working for some time on a new project. It’s a location-based social game called Sprouting. My pet peeve with most location-based services and their “gamifaction” is that the gameplay elements feel bolted onto services that seem primarily focused on marketing and market opportunities.
My goal is to do better than that with Sprouting. With it, I hope to create a space for imaginative, artful, social play. To that end, Jesse Ledoux has contributed some amazing art, and I’ve been working on the code (in various forms) and gameplay for the better part of a year, hijacking school projects for research whenever possible.
It’s not quite ready for the world, but it’s getting close enough that I ought to start trying to pull in some beta testers. Please sign up! I’m going to need feedback from players to make this an interesting community and game. The form for beta testing is here:
I’m also looking for help coding! Contact me if you’d like to get involved; I’m looking smart collaborators with a deep understanding of internet services, Ruby, Javascript, iOS/Android development, and (maybe most importantly) a passion for games.
Current status.
I just found a haiku that I wrote during Interactive 2010:
Take 10 thousand nerds,
multiply by 10 beers each.
That’s a lot of beer.
